The closure order obtained by South Yorkshire Police at court means that nobody is allowed to enter the Martin Street flat in Upperthorpe.

Those who breach the order face prosecution.

Simon Kirkham, of the Walkley and Hillsborough neighbourhood policing team, said: “There was a really troublesome address within Martin Street flats.

“The anti-social behaviour, noise, drug activity and aggression was causing a great deal of anxiety and had for quite some time. Items were being thrown from the flat windows and urgent action was needed.

“We have always tried to engage with local communities and a number of local residents provided us with a very clear understanding as to what was happening.”

He said a full closure order was granted at court to give local residents ‘some respite’ and to allow ‘longer term solutions to be put in place’.

Plans have been made to interview a man for two public order offences connected with the closed property.

CCTV cameras cover the flat in question and notices are fixed stating that entering the property is not allowed.

Sgt Kirkham said: “We will enforce and take firm action but we need also to work with partner agents to ensure the perpetrator/s are housed.

“There is often a mental health or substance abuse causation to such things. Efforts to support are being made in those directions too.”
