Sheffield detectives working on FIVE murder investigations in city

The fatal stabbing of a man in Sheffield this week takes the murder toll for the city to five so far this year.

Anthony Sumner, aged 42, was killed in an attack on Windy House Lane, Manor, just before midnight on Thursday.

A 49-year-old man and 15-year-old boy, both from Sheffield, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remained in police custody last night.

Detectives investigating the murder are seeking witnesses and want to hear from anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage which could help them piece together the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The crime scene was taped off and under police guard until yesterday afternoon when the cordon was lifted.

Floral tributes have been left at the spot where Mr Sumner was killed, just a few yards from Norfolk Park School.

Police patrols have been stepped up in the wake of the murder.

Councillors, police officers and partner agencies are due to meet over the next few days following the murder to discuss community safety issues.

The fatal knife attack occurred close to the spot where 32-year-old Danny Irons was also stabbed when violence flared on Fretson Green, Manor, in the early hours of Saturday, April 17.

He was a father of three young children – two sons and a daughter.

Daniel Chadwick, 29, of Melville Drive, Manor and Ross Turton, 29, of Danewood Avenue, Manor, have both been charged with his murder.

That same month, Sheffield solicitor Khurm Javed, also known as Khuram and Khurram, was shot dead in Sheffield.

The 31-year old, of Archer Road, Millhouses, was killed during a disturbance on Clough Road, near Bramall Lane, on April 10.

He worked for Alison Law Solicitors on London Road and was a married dad with three young children.

Samsul Mohamed, 18, of Wolseley Road, Sharrow, has been charged with his murder and is remanded in custody ahead of a trial in December.

Atif Mohamed, 19, of Sharrow Lane, Sharrow and Tinashe Kampari, 19, of Donavan Road, Parson Cross, Sheffield, have both been charged with assisting an offender.

The first murder investigation of the year in Sheffield was launched in January when 45-year-old Lee James Phillips died at his house on South Road in High Green, Sheffield, after an assault.

Two men, aged 31 and 25, were arrested alongside a 19-year-old woman on suspicion of murder.

They were bailed pending further enquiries.

A murder in the city on May 13 also remains unsolved and is still under investigation.

Albanian national Armend Xhika, 22, was stabbed when violence flared on Earl Marshal Road, Fir Vale and Kirton Road, Pitsmoor, a short time later.

The illegal immigrant, who lived on Kirton Road, was taken to A&E at the Northern General Hospital in a car which was then driven off while medics battled to revive him.

Open heart surgery was performed in the hope of saving the young man’s life but he passed away, triggering a murder probe.

A number of arrests have been made but nobody has been charged to date.

Anyone with information about any of the incidents should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
