Some of the latest court cases to be linked to Sheffield and the region in recent days are outlined below, with both alleged and convicted offenders.
A knife-wielding attacker has been jailed after he stabbed another man at a party, and in a separate case police found an assault rifle and hand grenades at a Sheffield property linked to drugs.
Another case saw a Sheffield man who had originally been given a suspended prison sentence for injuring a baby have his sentence altered to three years of custody.
Elsewhere, a Sheffield man was due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court this week accused of murder following an alleged stabbing, and in another case a woman was also due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court charged with murder after a suspicious death of man in Rotherham.

5. Tekla Selassie
Bristol Crown Court heard how Tekla Selassie, pictured, aged 20, formerly of Eastfield Avenue, Bath, was sentenced to three years in a Young Offender Institution for his role as an ‘assistant’ to a heroin and cocaine supplier. Police described the set-up as an organised crime network that saw huge quantities of drugs and cash moved between London, the Midlands and the West Country. Bristol Crown Court heard how Tobias Slender, pictured, aged 44, formerly of Dale Walk, Cheltenham, was sentenced to five years of custody after he admitted conspiring to supply 2kg of cocaine on three separate deliveries. The court heard Slender and three others - including a Sheffield man - were sentenced to time behind bars for their roles in what police described as an organised crime network that saw huge quantities of drugs and cash moved between London, the Midlands and the West Country. A doctor has stated during the trial of a man accused of murdering his two-month old baby son that scans indicated the child may have suffered an ‘inflicted injury’ to his head.
Sheffield Crown Court has heard during an on-going trial how Leon Mathias, aged 33, of Stonebridge Lane, Great Houghton, Barnsley, denies assaulting and murdering his baby son, Hunter, who was taken to hospital with injuries on November 30, 2018, and died on December 3, 2018. Prosecuting barrister, Robert Smith KC, previously told the jury that the baby died in Sheffield Children’s Hospital as a result of a severe brain injury and the child had also suffered three lower limb fractures. London's Court of Appeal heard how Andrew Newton, aged 27, of Parson Cross, injured a baby boy who suffered a fractured left upper arm and right thigh during an incident in 2019. The court also heard that the youngster also suffered three broken ribs in a separate incident. Newton who pleaded guilty to cruelty to a person aged under 16 was originally sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court to a two-year suspended prison sentence but after the Court of Appeal reviewed the case he was re-sentenced to three years of custody.
