Several routes in the city have already been altered because of yobs throwing missiles at passing vehicles.

On Saturday afternoon, First Bus South Yorkshire tweeted: “Due to an incident of vandalism on Hucklow road, services 11A,32,95 and 95A are being diverted via Barnsley road and Stubbin Lane.”

The bus company said a pre-planned diversion on the 56 service had also been put in place early because of “repeated acts of anti- social behaviour”.
