No arrests have yet been made.

Police patrols have been stepped up in the wake of the attack and South Yorkshire Police’s Serious Violent Crime Taskforce has also been sent into Broomhall in a bid to restore calm.

The team was launched in June 2019 and funded with a £2.5 million Home Office grant with a specific remit to tackle and reduce violent crime across South Yorkshire including stabbings and shootings.

It was launched in the wake of nine fatal stabbings in the county in a 12-month period.

Sergeant Adam Wood from the Sheffield Central and North West neighbourhood policing team said: “We understand how concerning an incident like this can be to the local community. I’d like to assure residents that additional officers are out patrolling the area today, and for the rest of the week, to offer extra reassurance.

“We are also bringing in officers from our Serious Violent Crime Taskforce to offer additional support to our neighbourhood team, to ensure everyone in this community feels safe and comfortable in going about their daily lives.”
