Rotherham pensioner taken to hospital after breaking her arm in £300 cash robbery

A Rotherham pensioner broke her arm and was taken to hospital for treatment, after a criminal robbed her handbag containing £300 in cash yesterday.

The 89-year-old was stood at a bus stop at 1.30pm on Roughwood Road, Wingfield yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, November 17) when an unknown woman approached her and grabbed her handbag.

As the bag wrapped around her walking frame, it caused the pensioner to fall, hitting her head and breaking her arm.

Over £300 cash was stolen by the robber, along with keys and bank cards during the theft.

The 89-year-old was taken to hospital to be treated for her injuries but has now been discharged and is recovering at home.

Officers arrested a 31-year-old Rotherham woman on suspicion of robbery yesterday (Tuesday, November 17) after they conducted numerous enquiries, following the theft which caused a 89-year-old pensioner to be hospitalised.

The suspect currently remains in police custody.
