Two early morning shootings in Sheffield neighbourhood as police investigate 'unknown' suspects on e-bikes

Major investigation after incident in early hours today

Police are on the scene of two shootings in one Sheffield neighbourhood which took place in the early hours of the morning.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed details of the incidents which happened a stone’s throw away from one another, in their first statement since officers closed Horninglow Road, near Longley, in the early hours of this morning (September 23).

And it has emerged that there were shootings in both Horninglow Road, and Swanbourne Road, a location just a few minutes away.

Police said in a statement that they were called to reports of a firearms discharge at a house on Swanbourne Road, Sheffield at 4.31am.

Shortly after, at 4.42am, they were called to a further report of a firearms discharge at another house on Horninglow Road.

They said it was reported that two unknown suspects attended the first location on an electric style bike and fired a gun at a house. The same circumstances are reported to have taken place at the second location.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the incidents.

Officers attended and scenes have been established at both locations while enquiries take place into both incidents.

Superintendent Martin Simcock said: “These are serious incidents and I know that the public will rightly be concerned. When reckless individuals discharge a deadly weapon, they put innocent lives at risk.

“Our officers will work around the clock to bring the suspects to justice. We will also have an increased officer presence in the area in the coming days for the reassurance and safety of the public.

“We take gun crime incredibly seriously in South Yorkshire, but we cannot solve this issue alone.

“This is the second time this week that we are responding to reports of a firearms discharge in Sheffield, and we simply cannot go on like this.

“We need the support of the public, we need you to report anything you think you might know about serious crime so that we can thoroughly investigate.

“If you suspect someone is in possession of an illegal firearm, tell us so that we can take action before the weapon is used.

“If you have information about this latest incident, please get in touch with us online or by calling 101, quoting incident number 116 of 23 September 2026.”

Horninglow Road has been closed between Barnsley Road and Tideswell Road, near Longley Park Sixth Form, with police tape cordoning it off.

Scenes of crime officers have been spotted at the scene, with marked crime scene investigation vans, and officers wearing their trademark white coveralls used for forensic investigations.

Police were called to the scene, with the cordon already in place before the start of today’s rush hour.

A large number of marked police cars are also at the scene, along with uniformed police officers .

Longley Park Sixth form has been closed today because of the police cordon affecting access. But college leaders have stressed the incident has no connection to the college.
