Police seize HUGE haul of cannabis plants worth £70,000 from ‘dangerous’ Sheffield house

Officers from the Walkley and Hillsborough neighbourhood policing team made the discovery at an address in Walkley.

The detached house on Camm Street had been set up to grow cannabis.

Officers found two full rooms of mature cannabis plants each plant about 3 feet high, with an estimated street value of £70,000.

Sgt Simon of the Walkley and Hillsborough Team said: “We had to put the door in I'm afraid.

He said there was an abundance of forensic evidence so officers are hopeful of building a case that can lead to a prosecution.

The team has seized more than £3m worth of cannabis since its formation in February last year and three offenders caught and convicted during the operations are currently in prison.

Sgt Simon added: ““Apart from the trouble organised criminality of this nature can cause its also remembering landlords are trying to make a living and these properties are often wrecked.

“There's also the risk of fire with faulty electrics and the anti-social behaviour that can go with all this.

“Our Team are leading operation League-Kilo in our area and really welcome any tip offs regarding such cannabis grow activity.”

The houses was visited by the Fire Service and concerns about electrical safety were raised.

He added that the electrical contractors said it was one of the most dangerous electrical bypass examples they had seen.

The landlord was contacted and is supporting the team.
