A police hunt is under way for a thief on a moped who snatched a mobile phone from a woman in Sheffield city centre.

He was one of two men on a moped which was ridden past a 23-year-old woman as she stood at the Cathedral tram stop on Church Street at 9.40pm on Thursday, January 9.

The pillion passenger grabbed the phone from the woman and the moped left Sheffield in the direction of Park Square roundabout.

Enquiries so far have established that the moped used in the incident was stolen from a property on Cobden View Road, Crookes, earlier that day.

The phone was later thrown through the door of the Chantrey Arms pub in Woodseats.

Detectives investigating the incident have released CCTV footage of people they would like to speak to.
