Police provide update on man arrested over kidnapping after ‘woman and child locked in Sheffield house’

A man arrested on suspicion of kidnap in Sheffield has been released from custody.

He was arrested after armed officers were deployed to Weakland Drive, Hackenthorpe, last Thursday afternoon following reports that a woman and child were locked in a house.

The alarm was raised at 12.15pm and negotiators were sent to the scene.

The woman and child were eventually released, unharmed, and negotiations with a 28-year-old man continued into the night.

He was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping by false imprisonment.
