A police probe into the ‘poo-gate’ incident at Hillsborough is continuing today.

South Yorkshire Police said an investigation was launched into a trespass incident at Sheffield Wednesday’s ground after it was reported at 9.40pm on Sunday.

Trespassers broke into the stadium and got onto the pitch, where one of them defecated on the centre spot.

The incident was filmed and the footage was shared online.

Those involved were Sheffield United fans, with one of the culprits having identified himself on his own Facebook page.

He changed his profile picture to show him crouching next to the centre spot and giving the thumbs up sign next to human excrement.

Sheffield United said if those involved are proven to be Blades they will be banned from Bramall Lane.

South Yorkshire Police said: “Police are investigating reports that persons unknown trespassed onto the pitch at the Sheffield Wednesday football stadium, Hillsborough.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
