Police probe into murder continues after man dies following fight on city estate

A police probe is continuing today into the death of a man after a fight on a Sheffield estate.

The 53-year-old, who has not yet been named, suffered a serious head injury in a fight on Longley Hall Way, Longley, between 9pm and 10pm on Friday, May 15.

He was taken to hospital but died yesterday.

Two men, aged 43 and 44, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and were later bailed.

They were re-arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder and remained in police custody last night.

Detective Chief Inspector James Axe, leading the murder probe, said: “My priority is to ensure we gather as much information as possible about the events leading up to this incident, and what happened immediately after.

“Were you on Longley Hall Way or in the surrounding area between 8pm and 11pm, did you hear or see anything that may help with this investigation?

“We know there was a large group of people who witnessed this incident – if you were there please do get in touch and let us know what you saw.

“Did you capture any people or vehicles on your CCTV cameras or dash cams? Even something that seems insignificant or routine could be vital to our investigation.”
