Police probe launched after car shot at in Sheffield

A police investigation has been launched into a shooting in Sheffield after a gun was fired at a car and injured a woman on Friday night.

In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said that the shot was fired in the Heeley area, just after 7.35pm.

"Police were called to Heeley Green where it is reported that a shot had been fired at a car on the street.

"A 48-year-old woman, who was getting out of the car at the time, suffered minor injuries to her arm, thought to have been caused from the ricochet of the shot hitting the car."

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Wheatcroft said: "Enquires are underway in the area to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, identify those involved and to provide reassurance to those living in Heeley.

"At this time, we are treating this as a targeted, isolated incident and would ask anyone with information to please call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

"Please quote incident number 760 of 15 November 2019 when passing on information".
