There have been a number of shootings in and around Pitsmoor over recent years.

A long-running feud between the S3 and S4 gangs has been responsible for a number of shootings in Pitsmoor and neighbouring Burngreave over the years.

Among the most shocking was the murder of 16-year-old Jonathan Matondo in October 2007, when the S3 gang member was killed at the Nottingham Cliff recreation ground in Burngreave.

There had been a series of tit for tat shootings leading up to the execution, including a failed attempt on Jonathan’s life as he visited a friend an a flat on Melrose Road, Pitsmoor.

Ballistics experts established that the same gun used to kill Jonathan had been used to fire at another S3 member's home two months earlier.

Another notorious shooting in Pitsmoor was that of 53-year-old taxi driver Younis Khan, who was killed as he drove along Scott Road.

Two brothers were jailed for 64 years between them after a trial after being found guilty of organising the killing as part of a feud with Mr Khan’s son.

More recently, in October 2019, a gun was fired at a taxi in Margate Drive, Pitsmoor.

Three passengers men were in a white Seat estate, operated by City Taxis, when a gun was fired at the vehicle in ‘targeted’ attack.

The month before, a 39-year-old man was shot at twice in Malton Street, Pitsmoor, in another targeted attack.

The victim, who was unharmed, was shot at from a car, which was later found burnt out.

Emergency services were deployed to Grimesthorpe Road, Burngreave, on Friday, May 8 after a gun was fired towards a group of men stood in the street.

Three weeks earlier a 21-year-old man was critically injured in the same street when shots were fired from one car towards another.
