South Yorkshire Police has released a statement after Park and Arbourthorne councillor Ben Miskell raised concerns about “a number” of burglaries occurring around Myrtle Close, Myrtle Drive and Myrtle Crescent.

CCTV footage of one incident last Friday (August 21), shows masked bikers arrive at a home before using a rock to smash through a patio door and enter the property.

Coun Miskell called on police to “take action” to bring an end to the offending, with the force now saying they will be providing a visible presence in the area after a “spike” in burglary reports.

Acting inspector Ross Masters, of the South East Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We know burglary is an incredibly invasive crime and that's why we adopt a collaborative approach to tackling the issue.

"Every day, we share intelligence with our Neighbourhood Crime Team who investigate all reports of burglary with active lines of enquiry.

"We are aware of the spike in reports of burglaries in the Myrtle Road area of Sheffield and our officers will be providing a visible presence to reassure residents and gather information.

"As always, I'd urge anyone who has concerns or is in possession of footage that they haven't shared with us to call us or speak to a police officer in person.

"You can pass us information by calling 101 or reporting online. Always call 999 in an emergency."
