Police were called at 10.29am today, Saturday, August 15, to reports of a man on City Road with a firearm and other weapons.

Armed officers rushed to the scene and found a man matching the description in Manor Fields Park.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: “To assist in detaining the man, armed officers discharged a baton round – a plastic bullet fired to control a suspect or situation.

"The man, a 26 year-old, was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences. An ambulance attended to check and assess the man’s injuries and he was discharged on scene. He remains in police custody.

"Officers recovered a firearm and a knife from the scene.”
