Mums United founder Sahira Irshad said Friday’s meeting has been called because community members ‘are saying enough is enough’ and are demanding an action plan on how authorities plan to tackle, gun, knife and drug crime in Sharrow and Nether Edge.

The meeting follows two shootings in Nether Edge and one in Sharrow last Friday.

There was also a gun attack on Grimeshorpe Road, Burngreave, the same day.

In the Sharrow attack, a 53-year-old man was shot when a gun was fired at a flat on Club Garden Road at 2am.

At 6.54pm two rival groups opened fire at each other in Machon Bank, Nether Edge and just over half an hour later a gun was fired at a house on Union Road, Nether Edge.

Mr Irshad said: “The community are saying enough is enough and they want to know what action is going to be taken to stop this.

“Local families are scared, frightened and feeling vulnerable.

“We know there are gangs and drugs in all pockets of Sheffield, whether you are from Arbourthorne, Walkley, Sharrow or Totley, and there are young people from all background engaging in this. But it is no good the police and council only coming to a community when it is too late and the situation has escalated, we want action now to stop it happening in the first place.”

She said she does not want the meeting to be ‘a talking shop’ but a chance for an ‘action plan to be drawn up’ on what the police, council and MPs plan to do about gang culture, drugs and weapons on the streets.

“Our community wants measures in place to help the youths, their families and the wider community,” she said.

“We want to see the police and councillors knocking on doors getting to know local people, listening, understanding and having empathy.

“Talking isn’t always easy, so the police and council need to gain the trust of the community.

“There has to be a way forward to stop this happening again and again.”
