Police cars swarm outside Sheffield tower block as armed officers arrest three men

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of firearm offences after armed officers were called to a Sheffield estate.

Three police cruisers and an unmarked vehicle rapidly assembled outside the high-rise flats on Deer Park Road in Stannington, where they surrounded two other cars, at around 6.45pm on Monday (July 19).

Residents within the three tower blocks and the nearby children’s play area looked on as armed officers arrested three men, who were handcuffed and made to sit on the kerb while the vehicles were searched.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police today revealed that the men were arrested on suspicion of firearm offences and remain in custody while they are being questioned.

She said: "As a result of a vehicle being stopped by officers on Deer Park Road 6.45pm on Monday 19 July, three men were arrested on suspicion of firearms act offences.

"They remain in custody and enquiries are ongoing."
