Police called to Sheffield street after terrified neighbours report youths armed with a chainsaw

A police search was mounted for two masked youths armed with a chainsaw in a Sheffield suburb last night.

Officers were deployed to Handsworth at around 11pm following reports of two teenagers carrying a chainsaw in the Flockton Road area.

A social media post shared about the incident warned people to ‘stay indoors’ and to make sure their doors and windows were locked.

It urged people to remain ‘vigilant’.

South Yorkshire Police said officers carried out a search of the area but could not find the two youths.

In a statement, the force said: “Officers were called to Flockton Road in the Handsworth area of Sheffield at 11.04pm yesterday following reports that two people had been seen carrying a chainsaw.

“An extensive search of the area was carried out but nobody carrying a chainsaw was found.”
