Since the covid-19 scare began, the area of Page Hall has struggled to maintain the Government imposed lockdown as social-distancing rules go ignored and violent incidents flare-up with depressing regularity.

Now, community activist Nasar Raoof, of the Firth Park Neighbourhood Network, says the area’s inspector will next week meet with them to discuss a new policing plan and in the meantime, more police officers will patrol the area’s streets.

Announcing the breakthrough on Facebook last night, Mr Raoof said: “Leaving you guys with a quick update in regards to activities in the Page Hall area.

“Following on from an email which was sent to the superintendent and Councillor Paul Wood this morning regarding the recent increase of anti-social behaviour, brawls and other incidents, we as FPNN are dealing with and supporting residents on the problems raised with us.

“We will be meeting with the council and the local neighbourhood inspector next week to work together and create a policing plan that actually works for the area and there will be increased police patrols in the area as of this evening.”

Since the coronavirus crisis began, there have been numerous incidents of social-distancing rules being broken in the area and several even more serious violent incidents.

Earlier this month, a huge crowd gathered in one of the neighbourhood’s streets to watch a street brawl and just days later a man was arrested by police in the early hours of the morning.

Mounted police were also recently brought into to the area along with the serious violent crime taskforce in a bid to stem the disorder, but this has so far had limited effect, locals say.

Page Hall has long been a troubled part of Sheffield with many of the problems coming from tensions between people with deep roots in the area and more recent arrivals, particularly from the Slovakian Roma community, with a near riot outside Fir Vale school hitting the national headlines.
