The youths were snapped in a photo posted to Twitter by former Sheffield City councillor Ibrar Hussain on the evening of April 26.

The image shows more than 10 kids huddled together on Hinde Street, Page Hall, as the city enters its sixth week of lockdown.

Mr Hussain said: “It continues on Hinde Street, it will continue all residents complaining.”

South Yorkshire Police would not comment on the photo, but a spokesperson said: “We are doing a lot of work in Page Hall to address the problems.”

Speaking earlier this month about what the force was doing to enforce social distancing in Page Hall, Superintendent Delphine Waring said: “A significant amount of people living in Page Hall and Fir Vale do not speak English as their first language, this naturally presents challenges for us in communicating the significance of the current situation.

It also means it is more difficult to explain the specifics of social distancing and keeping people apart, especially when there are cultural differences to consider too.

Communication with our communities and building relationships is something that the local team have been working hard to improve for a while now and that is paying off.”

South Yorkshire Police said it had delivered thousands of leaflets translated into multiple languages to homes across Page Hall outlining government directions as well as stepping up high-visibility patrols.
