In January 2019, raiders mounted a daring heist at All Guns Discounted on Leigh Road, Attercliffe, and escaped with over 20 firearms and rounds of ammunition worth around £25,000.
They smashed their way into the shop through an exterior brick wall – creating two holes to allow raiders access to and from the store.
Extra security features have now been installed, including steel walls, to prevent repeat attacks.
Six arrests have been made in total and the men quizzed, all in their 20s and from South Yorkshire, were released under investigation after questioning.
No charges have been brought.
Earlier this year, a number of firearms were stolen when Hardy’s Gunsmiths on Alderson Road, Highfield, Sheffield, was broken into.
Suspects have been charged over that raid.
This week, South Yorkshire Police urged legal shotgun and firearm holders to increase their security in a bid to prevent weapons from falling into the wrong hands.
David Macleod, warrants and firearms manager for South Yorkshire Police, said: “Firearms that fall into the hands of criminals can be used to cause fear and harm within our communities.
“We need to ensure that we are working together to protect South Yorkshire.
“As well as additional levels of security, we are asking holders to make sure keys to their cabinets are in a secure place and that you don’t advertise that you participate in the hobby of shooting.”
