Today, several police cars and police vans were parked outside the properties, as uniformed officers stood guard to protect the scene, now sealed off with around 50 yards of police tape extending along both Ravenscroft Place and a section of Ravenscroft Avenue.

Inside that tape, several scene of crime officers could be seen, clad from head to to in white overalls.

A young woman, a friend of the family of the victim, arrived in a car with a bouquet of flowers, asking a nearby officer if she could leave them in front of the house, before speaking to other friends.

One neighbour said she had spoken to the victim’s relatives.

She said: “The family are just devasted. They’re just wanting their privacy now really.

“They want answers as to why it happened. She (the victim) kept herself to herself, but was a friend to all of us. She was a good neighbour. No one deserves what has happened to her. She’d help anyone.”

Neighbours said there had not been much noise the previous evening, although there had been incidents in the area in the past.

Another neighbour said it was a good area an a nice place to live. It’s scary,” she added

The 55-year-old victim was taken to hospital last night but died shortly after 11:30pm.

An 36-year-old man and an 41-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

An investigation is now underway and the woman’s family are being supported by specially trained officers.
