Murder suspect due in court today over shooting of Ramey Salem in Sheffield

A murder suspect is due in court today over a fatal shooting in Sheffield.

Jabari Fanty, aged 18, of of Broadhead Road, Deepcar, was charged yesterday with the murder of 20-year-old Ramey Salem, who was also known as Ramey Saleh.

Mr Salem was shot dead in a property on Grimesthorpe Road South, Burngreave, at around 1am on Monday, November 16.

Mr Salem was found with serious injuries and taken to hospital, where he died a short time later.

Fanty has also been charged with conspiracy to murder at Osgathorpe Park, Pitsmoor, on October 31, 2020, conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to endanger life between October 3 and November 17 as well as possession of an offensive weapon.

He has been remanded in custody and is due appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court today.

Three other men – two aged 18 and one 21 – remained in police custody last night after being arrested last weekend on suspicion of murder.

A 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and a 33-year-old man arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice last Thursday were released under investigation.

The murder is not being linked to another in Sheffield just 24 hours earlier.

On that occasion a man was stabbed to death on the Lansdowne estate in Highfield.

A man has been charged with that killing.
