Murder probe continues after street fights in Sheffield as police seek witnesses

Detectives are continuing to investigate the murder of a man who died after street fights in Sheffield last week.

Armend Xhika, aged 22, sustained serious injuries when violence flared on Earl Marshal Road, Fir Vale and on Kirton Road, Pitsmoor, shortly afterwards, on Thursday, May 13.

Armend was taken to the Northern General Hospital by car and medics battled to revive him, but he could not be saved.

Eyewitnesses said those who dropped him off outside A&E left the scene before police officers arrived.

As of yesterday, five arrests had been made during the investigation.

A man in his 30s arrested on suspicion of murder has been released under investigation.

Two others - a second man in his 30s and a man in his 20s - who were arrested on suspicion of murder have been released from custody along with a man in his 20s who was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and a woman in her 20s arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Senior investigating officer, Superintendent Ian Scott said: “Our investigation is continuing at pace and my team and I are working tirelessly to piece together the sequence of events which took place prior to Mr Xhika’s death.

“I remain keen to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident. Reports suggest there were a number of residents in Earl Marshal Road and Kirton Road who witnessed the disorder. If you saw anything at all, or know who was involved, please contact police today.”
