Girl, 10, left badly shaken after attempted abduction in Sheffield on Sunday

A 10-year-old girl has been left badly shaken after a hooded man reportedly attempted to abduct her in Sheffield in broad daylight.

The incident took place on a tree-lined pathway between Park Spring Drive and East Bank Road in the Norfolk Park area on Sunday morning, according to the girl’s mum, who did not want to be named.

A white male wearing a grey tracksuit with his hood up tried to grab her from behind while she was walking with her friend, another 10-year-old girl, who noticed him and screamed.

The pair ran then away and noticed a second man when they looked back.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Police in Sheffield are investigating after an incident on Park Spring Drive this morning (Sunday 16 May).

“It is reported that at around 11:50am two 10-year-old girls were playing between Park Spring Drive and East Bank Road, when they were approached by two men. One of the men is said to have attempted to put his arms around one of the girls.

“The girls ran away and returned home, where their parents called the police. Officers are at the scene and enquiries are underway to identify the men.”

The victim is OK but shaken, her mum said.

The woman’s partner told The Star: “At first the girls didn’t seem that bothered but then, when they realised how serious it was, her and her friend have both been upstairs playing all day and not wanting to go out.

"Her mum is angry.”
