Motorist could hold clue as police update Sheffield body in the woods murder probe

Two arrested and released on bail

Police investigating a suspected murder after the discovery of a body in Sheffield woodlands are turning to motorists for help.

They have appealed directly to drivers, who they think may have dashcam footage of people entering Ecclesall Woods on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The latest appeal comes as South Yorkshire Police say they have released two people on bail, who they had arrested in connection with the investigation.

Officers were called out to woods close to Whirlowdale Road at 6.46pm on Wednesday (September 2) and found a man’s body. They were called by the ambulance service after a member of the public had found the body.

Now police describe their murder investigation continuing ‘at pace’, and say they are keen to hear from anyone who may have filmed anyone entering the woods, or activity taking place as they have driven past, and are urging drivers to check their dashcam footage and get in touch, adding that the smallest piece of information could be pivotal to their inquiry.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s loved ones as we continue to work to understand the circumstances around his death.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed or captured any activity around the road or woodland area between 7pm on 1 September and 7pm on 2 September.

“We are looking for anyone entering the woodland, leaving, or vehicles being used in a suspicious manner.

“I urge you to get in touch with us.”

A man and a woman arrested yesterday (September 3) have since been released on police bail.
