Two other men, aged 21 and 23, who were arrested earlier in the police probe, were released under investigation after questioning.

Detectives said Mr Javed was shot following a ‘confrontation between two parties’.

A huge police cordon was put in place afterwards as officers searched for forensic evidence and attempted to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Mr Javed was a solicitor who worked for London Road-based law firm Alison Law Solicitors.

He was also a married dad-of-two, whose children are aged three and 18 months.

Former colleague Clare Mellor is among those to have paid tribute to Mr Javed.

Posting on an online GoFundMe page set up in memory of the murder victim, she said: “Khuram worked for Thompsons Solicitors between November 2014 and July 2016.

“He was a hard working and enthusiastic employee and we were very sorry when he left us for another job, you couldn’t have met a nicer person. Our thoughts are with his family at this terrible time.”
