Below are some of the more serious cases heard at Sheffield Crown Court recently where men have committed crimes against women.
Offenders have been involved in attacking their partners and ex-partners, assaulting female police officers, a street mugging and a rape.
One armed-offender committed a robbery in a woman's home and another defendant threatened to kill his ex-partner.
However, they have all been brought to justice as judges have seen fit to punish them appropriately with custodial sentences of varying lengths.

9. Martin Toyne
Sheffield Crown Court heard how Martin Toyne threw his partner against a radiator, kneed her and grabbed her by the throat at her home in Rotherham in April. Richard Thyne, prosecuting, said days earlier, Toyne slapped her before throwing an ornament at her and on another occasion he pushed her into a sink. Toyne, aged 38 at the time of sentencing, of Oaks Lane, Rotherham, pleaded guilty to assault, battery and two counts of GBH and was sentenced to three-years of custody.
