Below are some of the more serious cases heard at Sheffield Crown Court recently where men have committed crimes against women.

Offenders have been involved in attacking their partners and ex-partners, assaulting female police officers, a street mugging and a rape.

One armed-offender committed a robbery in a woman's home and another defendant threatened to kill his ex-partner.

However, they have all been brought to justice as judges have seen fit to punish them appropriately with custodial sentences of varying lengths.

Louis Windsor-Harris, of Doncaster, was sentenced to 42-weeks of custody after he strangled his partner. Sheffield Crown Court heard how Windsor-Harris, aged 21 at the time, grabbed the woman in a head-lock and pushed her at her home in March. Prosecutor Beverly Wright said Windsor-Harris grabbed his partner’s throat and hurled a bottle at her and pushed her into a fridge. Ms Wright added Windsor-Harris put a knife to his partner’s throat and later used another knife during which he held to her eye. Windsor-Harris, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to three counts of assault.

Daniel Cummins was given an 18-year custodial prison sentence after he climbed into a woman’s home and slashed at her with a knife. Sheffield Crown Court heard in June how Daniel Cummins, aged 36 at the time of sentencing, of St Helen’s Street, Elsecar, Barnsley, shinned-up a pipe on a house in Barnsley in the middle of the night and went into the victim’s bedroom and punched and slashed at her with a knife before stealing her mobile phone. Cummins pleaded guilty to robbery and unlawful wounding.

Gilmartin, aged 22 at the time of sentencing, of Broadway East, East Dene, Rotherham, pleaded guilty to sending malicious messages, making threats to kill and threatening to cause damage. Gilmartin was also given a ten-year restraining order.

Evans, who was aged 22 at the time of sentencing, pleaded guilty to rape. He also admitted an assault on another complainant after the incident in July, 2019. Judge Roger Thomas imposed a formal sentence of life imprisonment. Evans must serve a minimum of four-and-a-half years before he can be considered for release by the parole board.
