Men bailed over shop robberies in Sheffield as detectives investigate possible links between three offences

Two men arrested over a spate of shop robberies in Sheffield have been bailed.

The men, aged 24 and 33, were arrested on suspicion of armed robbery after three raids last week.

At 9.30pm on Monday, January 18 a group of men armed with machetes held up the Co-op on Jaunty Lane, Base Green, and stole cigarettes and cash.

On Tuesday night, robbers armed with a machete raided One Stop on Cottam Road, High Green, and escaped with tobacco and cigarettes.

The following night, two men, including one armed with a hammer, raided the Co-Op on Gleadless Road, Gleadless, and attempted to steal a cash box.

South Yorkshire Police said: “The men have been bailed whilst enquiries continue.”

Temporary Detective Inspector Andy Shields said: “We are currently keeping an open mind whether these three incidents are linked, but that is one of our lines of enquiry.

“Detectives are reviewing CCTV and carrying out extensive enquiries to identify those responsible.”
