Man started waving gun around at Sheffield petrol station after being warned about two-metre rule, say shocked witnesses

The man had bought a can of petrol at City Road Service Station yesterday, Saturday August 15, when he was reminded about social distancing and ‘flipped out’, according to one account posted on a social media forum.
He pulled out a shotgun and ‘started waving it in people’s faces’ and smashing bottles of beer, said the witness, before leaving the shop and heading up City Road.

Another person, writing on Facebook, said: “It started at the petrol station, where the guy threatened people, smashed glass bottles and he was pointing a gun at people, then he went into the playground at Manor fields pointing a gun. The armed police shot at him to disarm him.”
Police said they were called at 10.29am to reports of a man on City Road with a firearm and other weapons, and armed officers found a man matching the description in Manor Fields Park.
To assist in detaining him, they fired a baton round – a plastic bullet used to control a suspect or situation – said a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police.
A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences, and a firearm and knife were recovered at the scene, she added.
The man was checked over by paramedics before being discharged from their care at the scene.
No one else is believed to have been injured.
