Man charged over attempted knifepoint robbery in Sheffield shop

A man has been charged over an attempted knifepoint robbery in a Sheffield shop.

Lester Ramsey, aged 21, appeared at court last weekend facing charges over an incident at a convenience store on Verdon Street, Burngreave.

He is accused of entering a shop on Monday, July 13 and threatening a member of staff with a knife while demanding money from the till.

The member of staff is understood to have fought the offender off, chased him out of the shop and suffered a minor injury to his hand as a result.

Ramsey, of Nottingham Street, Burngreave, has been charged with attempted robbery, wounding and possession of an offensive weapon.He appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, August 1 and was remanded in custody.

He is due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court for another hearing on Friday, August 28.
