Man with axe threatened terrified Sheffield shoppers during city centre crime spree

A man has been arrested over a spate of axe robberies in Sheffield city centre.

The 18-year-old was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning after members of the public were reportedly threatened with an axe during a number of robberies over the last week.

He is being held on on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon.

Detective Inspector Ben Wood, said: “Some of the victims of these incidents have been left incredibly traumatised.

“This type of violence is not acceptable on the streets of our city.”
