Man arrested over murder of Danny Irons after Sheffield man stabbed to death on estate

A man has been arrested over the murder of a man stabbed to death in Sheffield at the weekend.

The 32-year-old, officially named today as Danny Irons, was killed in an attack on Fretson Green, Manor, in the early hours of Saturday, April 17.

A post mortem examination at the weekend confirmed that he was stabbed to death.

A 28-year-old Sheffield man was arrested on Saturday and released under investigation yesterday.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Oughton, leading the police probe, said: “Our inquiry has progressed at pace over the weekend and I would firstly like to thank everyone who has come forward with information so far.

“I continue to appeal to anyone who has information about what happened to Danny to pass this on to us.

“If you were in the Fretson Green area between midnight and 1am on Saturday and think you saw something suspicious, please get in touch. Even the slightest bit of information could really help us progress our investigation.”

He added: “Uniformed officers will remain in the Manor area throughout the week, so please do approach them if you have any questions or concerns.”

A huge police cordon was put in place around the crime scene at the weekend, with a number of roads sealed off.

Floral tributes and candles have been left there.

Anyone with information about the murder, dashcam or CCTV footage should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
