Man arrested over car theft after dramatic late-night police chase through Sheffield

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of theft after a late-night car chase through Sheffield and Rotherham yesterday (Monday, August 10).

Officers pursued a vehicle in Rotherham, which they believed had been stolen from a home, through to Sheffield in a police chase last night which led to the arrest of a 32-year-old man.

Police initially received reports that a burglary was taking place in Treeton in Rotherham at 11.20pm yesterday.

Criminals are said to have entered a house on Wood Lane before taking bank cards, a wallet and a grey Hyundai which was parked at the address.

Police chased the car in a pursuit which ended near Heron Hill, Aston in Sheffield as the driver got out of the vehicle and began to flee on foot.

A 32-year-old was detained close by after a short pursuit by officers.

The man who has been arrested on suspicion of theft, remains in police custody.
