A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening people with an axe during a series of robberies in Sheffield city centre.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday, September 1.

There were six incidents, including robberies on Trafalgar Street and Rockingham Street last week.

Detective Inspector Ben Wood said: “As you can imagine, some of the victims of these incidents have been left incredibly traumatised by the threats made towards them.

“Over the last week, officers from right across the district, including CID and response teams, have taken swift action in relation to these incidents.

“This type of violence is not acceptable on the streets of our city.

“Our investigation is ongoing and I would urge anyone with information to contact us, especially if you have been a victim of a similar incident.”
