Minor damage was caused to the Mercedes but a 76-year-old man driving the car and a 75-year-old woman passenger were said to have been ‘left shaken’ by the incident.

Later that evening, the woman was taken ill and died a short time later.

Police want to hear from witnesses, anyone who remembers seeing the lorry that day and motorists who may have dash cam footage from the area on that day.

South Yorkshire Police said: “As enquiries into the collision continue, police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened to contact them.

“Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the manner of driving of the HGV and who may have dash cam footage.

“The HGV is believed to have a distinctive blue and silver cab and hitched to a trailer fitted with a green shipping container.”

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 363 of January 22.
