Yesterday, the decision was made to evacuate homes in the area, as a 100-metre cordon was placed around property on Mapplebeck Road.

It followed the discovery of “additional items” in a concealed area in the property, Assistant Chief Constable Ian Proffitt, of South Yorkshire Police, said this afternoon (Wednesday, September 16, 2026).

As police confirm residents are now free to return to their homes, the explosives investigation is set to continue.
