Bomb squad carry out explosion in Sheffield park after live ammunition found

The Army’s bomb squad carried out a controlled explosion in a Sheffield park after live ammunition was found inside a house.

Police were called Wake Road in Nether Edge at around 2pm on Saturday after a resident of the property made the discovery.

The historic military ammunition was removed from the address before it was transported to Graves Park and detonated.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police told The Star: "Police were called at around 2pm to reports that a historic military ordnance had been found by a resident at an address in Wake Road, Sheffield.

“An army explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team attended the scene and the ordnance was removed from the property. It was transported to Graves Park where it was safely detonated in a controlled explosion.”

Police thanked members of the public for their patience and cooperation.
