Kyle Dearn: Gunman admits firearms charge after shooting on residential Rotherham street
A 37-year-old man is facing years behind bars, after pleading guilty to a firearms charge relating to a shooting on a residential street.
Shots were fired towards a Land Rover on Pitt Street, Kimberworth, at around 1.18pm on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
No-one was injured in the incident.

Kyle Dearn, of Pitt Street, Kimberworth, Rotherham, has now admitted a firearms offence in relation to the incident, and faces being subject to the mandatory minimum prison sentence of five years which applies to those convicted of possessing a prohibited weapon or ammunition.
During a Sheffield Crown Court hearing held on Friday, January 16, 2026, Dearn pleaded guilty to one count of possessing a shotgun with intent to endanger life/enable another to do so, dating back to August 12, 2025.
The offence carries a maximum custodial sentence of 10 years, and the mandatory sentence of at least five years’ custody, irrespective of a defendant’s plea, applies unless the court is “of the opinion that there are exceptional circumstances relating to the offence or to the offender which justify its not doing so.”
Dearn was remanded into custody at the conclusion of Friday’s hearing, and is now due to be sentenced in a hearing scheduled to take place at the same court in May 2026.
Speaking the day after the shooting, Detective Superintendent Nikki Shimwell, of South Yorkshire Police, said armed officers found “evidence consistent with a firearms discharge.”
She continued: "South Yorkshire Police have worked tirelessly to tackle and reduce firearms criminality and I want to make it clear that such reckless criminality will not be tolerated on the streets of South Yorkshire and we will continue to robustly disrupt and prosecute those involved.
"The actions of those responsible for yesterday’s shooting in Rotherham needlessly put the lives of innocent members of the public at risk, and it is incredibly fortunate that no-one was harmed - or worse - as a result.
"I would like to reassure residents that there will be a heightened police presence in the Kimberworth area this week to ensure the safety of the public following this dangerous attack.”
"It is vital that we have the support of residents in tackling gun crime, and any piece of information, no matter how small it may seem, could prove vital to our investigation."
