Burglars broke into V OR V, a vegan and vegetarian restaurant on Cornish Street, on Wednesday night, when they were caught on camera taking the till, music system and alcohol.

The restaurant warned customers on Thursday, September 17 that the break-in meant it may be short on certain drinks and could only take card payments for now.

“It’s been a tough few months for everyone, so opening up today wasn’t fun to say the least,” it added.

“Apparently they (the intruders) did not like red wine or fizz so these scumbags are not the type with taste, although they did adhere to the mask policy and social distancing whilst at work.

“We are an independent business who will endeavour to overcome these obstacles to continue to provide you with the great service you are used to.

“Thank you for continuing to support your local independents, our awesome customer support has helped give us hope for the future.”

News of the burglary prompted a flood of support from loyal customers on social media for the restaurant, which only opened in 2019.

The owners said they were touched by the messages and issued their own words of defiance despite what they said was the latest in a run of bad luck.

Responding to customers, they said: “Just need to keep positive and keep doing what we love. Won't let them grind us down.”
