Investigation into police officer who used baton against Sheffield Wednesday fan, aged 16, 'in final stages'

A teenage Sheffield Wednesday fan was left bleeding from the head after the incident, which took place as trouble flared between rival fans following the Owls’ Championship derby against Barnsley at Oakwell on 8 February.
The incident was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which investigates the most serious complaints against police in England and Wales, two days later.

Hide AdThe officer involved is still working for South Yorkshire Police but has been placed on restricted duties pending the outcome of the IOPC’s criminal and misconduct investigations.
On Monday an IOPC spokesperson confirmed the investigation is being ‘finalised’ but a public announcement on the outcome will not be made until ‘at least next month’.
