Investigation launched after body of young man is found in Sheffield city centre

A police investigation has been launched following the discovery of a young man’s body in Sheffield city centre.

Police cordons are in place in the Charles Street area of Sheffield today following the discovery of a body in Union Street in the early hours of today.

The death of the man, who was in his 20s and has been formally identified, is being treated as unexplained.

South Yorkshire Police said: “In the early hours of this morning, the body of a man was discovered in Union Street, Sheffield.

“The man, in his twenties, has now been formally identified and officers are in the process of tracing his family.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and while officers carry out their enquiries, two scenes are in place in the Union street and Charles Street area.”

Crime scene investigators have been deployed and are working within the police cordon.
