Illegal immigrants arrested after police stop car with defective brake light in Sheffield

Two illegal immigrants were arrested in Sheffield when a car was pulled over by the police for having a defective brake light.

The car was stopped in Burngreave and it was established that the car was uninsured and the driver did not have a licence.

Further checks revealed that the driver and his passenger were both illegal immigrants.

South Yorkshire Police said: “Eagle-eyed officers now have a knack for spotting uninsured vehicles and unlicensed drivers, and Tuesday was no different.

“After stopping a vehicle with a brake light out, the usual fantastical stories came flowing from the driver’s mouth. Unfortunately we are well versed in the art of deception and his story was soon unpicked.

“After further suspicions came forward, it was time to check with our friends at immigration, and unfortunately for our two new passengers, there were no records of either of them ever entering the country legally.”
