Violence flared on Queens Road, Heeley, on Thursday night and an 18-year-old man was shot in his leg during a fight involving a number of men.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remained there last night while the hunt for his attacker continued.

South Yorkshire Police are treating the shooting, which happened close to Halfords, as a ‘targeted’ attack.

Details of seven shootings in Sheffield so far this year have been released by South Yorkshire Police

The force said a ‘significant number’ of officers were deployed to the crime scene and surrounding area in the aftermath of the shooting for searches and forensic work.

Additional officers have been brought in to work in the area over the weekend as the hunt for the gunman continues.

Superintendent Simon Verrall said: “I am acutely aware that news of this incident may spark some concern from the local community, this is a serious incident which has happened on one of the main routes into our city.

“Please be reassured that we have specialist teams carrying out enquiries.”

The shooting is the seventh so far this year which South Yorkshire Police has released details on.

Earlier this month two men were injured in a gun attack in Ashpool Close, Woodhouse.

A gun was fired at around 10.40pm on Friday, March 5 and blood stains could be seen on the ground and wall outside one of the houses in the street where the injured men were found.
