The Audi RS4, which according to reviews retails for more than £60,000, can reach speeds of up to 174mph and goes from 0-60mph in around 4.1 seconds, was abandoned on Hatherley Road after being pursued by police though Sheffield, according to Councillor Shaffaq Mohammed.

He said residents had reported seeing two men running from the vehicle as police closed in on them today at around 1.30pm.

“From what I gather the car had been stolen from someone and the police obviously gave pursuit,” he said.

"They’ve come onto this very narrow road and probably realising that the police were going to block them in they abandoned the car in the middle of the road and ran off down an alleyway.”

The Star has contacted South Yorkshire Police for more information.
