Four men shot in early morning gun attacks in Sheffield

Four men were shot in two separate gun attacks in Sheffield in the early hours of this morning.

In the first shooting, a gun was fired towards a group of men in Grimesthorpe Road, Burngreave, at around midnight.

Three men were shot in the incident and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening but they remain in hospital this morning.

At around 2am, officers were called to Club Garden Road, Sharrow, following a call from a man reporting that he had been shot.

The 53-year-old was taken to hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds to his arm and leg.

His injuries are also not believed to be life threatening.

Police patrols have now been stepped up in Sheffield in the wake of the shootings.

Cordons are in place around both crime scenes.

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Henderson said: “I understand the concern that incidents like these cause within the local community, and I would like to reassure everyone that we are doing all we can to build up a picture of the circumstances surrounding both of these incidents.

“The investigations are in their very early stages but please know that our enquiries are progressing at pace and we do not believe there to be any risk to the wider public.

“People living in these areas will see an enhanced policing presence today, with house-to-house enquiries underway and cordons in place around both scenes.

“Extra uniformed officers will remain there over the coming days to provide reassurance and make sure everyone feels safe. If you have any concerns or questions, please do speak to these officers, they are there to support you.
