'Four gunshots' heard in Sheffield suburb, as police cordon remains in place

Residents in a Sheffield suburb have reported hearing what they believe were shots fired in the early hours of this morning, Thursday, August 27.

The shots were allegedly heard at around 4.30am this morning in Heeley and there has been a police presence in the area since.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: "I live off Heeley Bank Road and was woken at 4.30am. I wasn't sure what by but I think shouting.

"Then four distinct shots. I now know the difference between fireworks and gunshot. Police helicopter out overhead at around 5.25am."

And another tweeted: “Just heard four gunshot two double taps coming from direction of Myrtle Road S2.”

There is currently a police cordon on Madehurst Road and East Road. Police vehicles and officers are patrolling the cordon.

South Yorkshire Police have said an investigation is underway and have appealed for anybody with information about the incident should contact police on 101.
