Fireworks target homes and cars as police and firefighters deal with Sheffield Bonfire Night troublemakers
‘The majority of people enjoyed Bonfire Night safely’
Police were called out when youths turned their fireworks on houses on a Sheffield street on Bonfire Night.
The incident in Broomhall is understood to have been one of a number of incidents to lead to South Yorkshire Police being called out during Bonfire Night, as the city celebrated the traditional night, with other incidents including fireworks targeted at cars.
In total, the force received 84 calls into its control room during the night for firework related incidents. Additional neighbourhood, response, and public order officers were on duty.

Police said most people enjoyed the evening safety, but a ‘small minority’ caused problems.
Video footage seen by The Star showed a group of youths appearing to fire their fireworks at flats near the junction of Exeter Road and William Street.
Police confirmed that they had attended the incident.
A spokesman said: “At 10.05pm yesterday (Thursday November 5), we were called to reports of youths setting off fireworks towards properties at Exeter Drive, Sheffield.
“No damage was reported as a result of the incident. Officers attended and the youths had left the scene.”
He added that the majority of people enjoyed Bonfire Night safely, attending organised events and celebrating with friends and family.
He said: “However, a small minority were set on causing issues, with majority of calls reporting youths setting fireworks off in the streets and towards vehicles.
“Following these calls, officers responded and dispersed the groups and follow up investigations will now continue.”
Among other issues in South Yorkshire over night, firefighters were sent to a house fire on Rotherham Road, in Smithies, Barnsley, which South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service says was caused by a firework.
Fire crews spent three hours putting the fire out, but no one was injured in the incident.
Police had previously warned people over the dangerous misuse of fireworks, and warned they had to make arrests over the Halloween period. They had issued a video alerted people to the dangers.
The teenagers involved in the Halloween incidents, all aged between 15 and 16, were apprehended for their antics on Spital Hill, in the Burngreave area of Sheffield.
